Chapter Philanthropy

Relay for Life

In April last year Kappa Kappa Gamma participated in raising money and awareness for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life foundation. We were one of the top fundraising teams coming in second with $2,753. We were proud to support this cause and have a lot of members on the committee that put the function together. This event is close to a lot of Kappa’s hearts because many have been affected by the pain that cancer causes so we were all very happy to join the other teams in fundraising and attending. During the night-long event we had many Kappas walking and running the track while some manned the booth. We continued to raise money at the track by selling string for a dollar and every time someone did a lap they could put a bead on their string. We also had games of Corn Hole that people could participate in and some of our members also participated in the games that the Relay for Life staff put on. Even in the early hours of the night into the morning we had people walking laps and showing support for this cause. Overall, we were very proud to be a part of fundraising for Relay for Life and we can’t wait to partake again this year and hopefully raise even more money for the American Cancer Society!

This year's Relay for Life will take place on April 2nd! We are super excited for the event. More information to come.

Mr. Wyoming Pageant

Last year, the ladies hosted the 11th annual Mr. Wyoming Pageant on Saturday, April 11! The entire chapter came together to put on the best show they could to crown the next Mr. Wyoming! The show included 17 of the University of Wyoming's finest men where they competed in Talent, Formal Wear, and a two part interview as well as learning a group dance routine. Last year's theme was "Strong People Stand Up for Themselves, But the Strongest People Stand Up For Others". The best part about the event is the money we were able to raise for the Albany County Safe Project located right here in Laramie. Last year, the ladies and men who competed brought in well over $2900!

Mr. Wyoming will take place on April 16th this year! More information to come.

M.S. Walk/Garage Sale

On April 18th as much of Laramie began to dig out from the April blizzard gathered in the Arena Auditorium as part of the Red Hot Chili Steppers team to support our sister Alysia, and her family, and the Colorado-Wyoming chapter of the National MS Society for the annual Walk MS Event. The event connects those living with Multiple Sclerosis and those who care about them to raise support for programs and research. An estimated 100,000 people are affected by MS in Colorado and Wyoming. Ladies of KKG fundraised and stepped forward to support a great cause and our sister.

As girls move in, move out and move around the house, closets become catchalls, items in storage are forgotten and great things are left homeless. In an effort to clean up such items Kappa organized a yard sale selling old furniture, clothing, and other items gathered over the semester. The sale occurred April 26th and in a matter of hours the sale sold a majority of items and raised over $300. The ladies decided all funding would go to support Alysia’s Walk MS team, the Red Hot Chili Steppers. The chapter managed to keep the plan for the money a secret from Alysia until after the sale. Alysia was presented with the money as a surprise during our last meeting of the semester.
